When we went to Bali, we also wondered where to go snorkeling, but since there are surprisingly few spots where you can snorkel in Bali and the sea is not that clean, we decided to go to Lembongan Island, which has a good reputation.
Lembongan Island is a 40-minute boat ride from Sanur in the southern part of Bali. In this article, I summarized the snorkeling and mangrove experiences we had on Lembongan Island and how to get there.
Lembongan Island is great for snorkeling! 3 reasons why we recommend it.
Reason 1: The clarity of the sea is the best in Bali.
Lembongan Island is said to have very clear waters in Bali. I actually went snorkeling on Lembongan Island, and I’m so happy with how beautiful the ocean is! I was able to snorkel in the crystal clear waters.
To begin with, there are surprisingly few clean waters in Bali. Originally, it was a popular resort for surfers who prefer high waves, so the clarity of the sea was probably irrelevant.
If you are going to Bali and want to snorkel in beautiful waters, I recommend going to Lembongan Island.
Reason 2: You can join a tour with pickup from your hotel for about $100 a day.
I thought it was convenient to have a plan that includes pick-up and lunch from the hotel for about $100 per day. I thought it was convenient to have a plan that includes pickup from the hotel and lunch for about $100 a day, because to be honest, getting around in Bali is not very convenient. Buses don’t run everywhere, and cabs are often ripped off.
In such a situation, the hotel picked us up from our hotel, took us to Lembongan Island, and prepared for snorkeling. A delicious lunch is also included. We thought that $100 for a full day of fun was not that expensive since we could relax and enjoy ourselves.
Reason 3: Relaxing time at a peaceful resort.
Bali is a surprisingly noisy city. There are also a lot of peddlers, so some people may think that their image of Bali is different after visiting.
Lembongan Island is a small remote island, so it is very peaceful. I think it is the perfect place for those who want to spend a relaxing time at a resort.
How to get to Lembongan Island.
If you want to go snorkeling, I recommend joining a tour.
Lembongan Island can be reached in about 40 minutes by boat from the port of Sanur in southern Bali.
If you want to go snorkeling, you will need to take a boat again to get to the beautiful ocean. You can’t do it by yourself. Even if it is your first time to Lembongan Island, I think it is recommended to take a tour that will take you everywhere in a car.
You don’t have to choose where you want to stay if you have a pick up and drop off at your hotel, and there are tours with Japanese speaking guides.
If you are going to Sanur by cab, be sure to read the following article.

Half-day tours are also available, but the price is not that different from the full-day ones.
If you are staying in Bali for a short time, you may feel that it is a waste of time to spend a day in Lembongan Island.
Since we didn’t have many days to spend in Bali, we first looked for a half-day tour. However, while a full-day tour costs about $100, a half-day tour costs at least $80. There are not many half-day tours to begin with, and some of them cost the same as a full-day tour.
Just because it’s a half-day tour doesn’t mean it’s half the price. Since Lembongan Island is famous for its mangroves, we thought it would be a good idea to spend the whole day there, so we joined the full-day tour.
If you are really looking for a half-day tour, VELTRA has a half-day tour.
You can also go by yourself.
It is possible to take a boat from Sanur by yourself. You can sign up for a pickup from your hotel for about $40 to $60.
If you are staying on Lembongan Island, you can also sign up privately and go by boat. If you go on your own, you will have to rent a motorcycle to get around the island. I heard that you can rent a bike even if you don’t have a license.

Since the mangrove walk could be changed from rowboat to paddleboat as an option, I applied for the paddleboat plan. For the rowboat, the price was $102.
8:00 Departure from Hotel.
When I signed up for the tour, I gave the name of my hotel and they informed me in advance that they would pick me up at 8:00am.
Since we were staying at a hotel in Seminyak, it was about an hour drive to Sanur where we would take the boat to Lembongan Island.
9:30 A 40-minute boat ride from Sanur to Lembongan Island.
It had been raining heavily since this morning, so the beach was a bit dull.
We took a 40-minute boat ride from Sanur, which was very bumpy and bumpy. We rarely get motion sickness, so we were fine, but the girl sitting in front of us went limp…poor thing.
If you are not strong enough for boats, you might want to take some anti-sickness medicine beforehand.
10:00 Arrive at Lembongan Island
Arrived at Lembongan Island! The rain had stopped, which was a relief. After arriving at the island, our Japanese speaking guide gave us a briefing on the schedule for the day. I can’t wait to see what we have planned for the day!
11:00 First, we took a paddle boat to the mangroves.
We were divided into two groups, one for mangroves and the other for snorkeling, and immediately started our activities.
We went to the mangroves in the morning and snorkeling in the afternoon. Half of the participants were divided into two groups to work on the activities.
We took a paddle boat to the mangroves. This was my first time trying a paddle boat, and I could stand up and paddle with no problem!
I was very excited because I didn’t expect to be able to see mangroves so closely. The paddle boat was a little difficult to operate at times, but it was very interesting to paddle through the mangroves by myself!
We made it back from the mangroves in one piece! It was a lot of fun, but we had to paddle hard and it took a lot of energy.
For lunch, you can choose from Nasi Goreng, Chicken Curry, and Ikan Pepes (wrapped fish). We chose nasi goreng and chicken curry. Both are delicious…!
13:00 Long-awaited snorkeling!
We donned our life jackets and boarded a boat to take us to a beautiful spot in the ocean.
The world of the sea is more beautiful than I imagined…! There is enough time to enjoy taking pictures in the sea.
If you want to take beautiful pictures in the sea, I recommend you to use a wearable camera. We also used a wearable camera to take pictures of the mangroves and in the sea.
After playing in the ocean to the fullest, we visited a natural salt workshop. We got some salt from Lembongan Island as a souvenir.
15:00 Photo shooting at the panoramic view spot.
We were taken to a spot where we could see Lembongan Island and take pictures. The heavy rain in the morning was unbelievably clear and we could see the beautiful scenery.
16:00 Take a boat to Bali
We took a boat back to Sanur. After arriving in Sanur, we were dropped off at our hotel again. I thought it was convenient to have a shuttle service to the hotel!
18:00 Arrive at Hotel
We arrived at our hotel around 18:00, and our tour of Lembongan Island was safely over. It took us a whole day, but we were able to enjoy the mangroves, snorkeling, and the great nature of Bali.
Summary: Enjoy the beautiful ocean in Lembongan Island.
I wrote a report on our experience of taking a tour of Lembongan Island.
In Lembongan Island, we enjoyed the beautiful sea and mangroves more than we had imagined. If you are planning to go snorkeling in Bali, I recommend this place with confidence.
